Christmas lights

With all that is happening in the world right now, its hard to think of creative ways to social distance while having a fun date night. Over the past weekend, Dave took me to see Christmas lights around the city and it was one of the best date nights that he has brought me on.

This date night was wonderfully magical, simple and quite affordable (must need vehicle). We bundled up and made sure that we were prepared for cold weather. We picked up cups of hot cocoa, waited for the sun to set and began our night. The weather was really nice, so we took extra time walking around the neighborhoods in search of lighted houses not listed on the website.

On the “Lighten UP Calgary” website, it lists all the must-see houses in the Calgary area. The houses are mapped and separated into quadrants which made it easy for us to draw out our own route to the houses that we wanted to see. We decided to check out the SE quadrant since it was closest to us however, I plan to see all the quadrants eventually ;)

The first house we went to see was in the Walden area, it was amazing and fully decorated. The house was covered in multicolored lights and the giant tree that was in front, lit up the whole lawn. The extra details of the free candy canes for guest was a very thoughtful touch. (Due to restrictions, candy canes were in a bucket outside and sanitizer was placed next to it)

One of our favorite homes that we recommend looking at, was the house on Deer Ridge way. This house literally lights up the street, we saw the house a block away as we were driving closer to it. This house was Dave’s favorite, it was so bright and cheery. This house was tack-er-riffic!! We spent the most time at this house since there was so much to see. There were lights that covered the entire house and Christmas figurines covered the entire lawn. All I could do was stare and smile.

Dave and I spent almost three hours driving around the SE quadrant of the city, driving from house to house in search of these Christmas lights. I had a great time on this date night adventure, and I would recommend doing this for some extra holiday cheer!
