*the Duchess Bake Shop cook book that my friends got me
A cookbook made me try it!
Isn't it a wonderful feeling when you get a chance to do something you love doing but haven't touched in a while. For me it was getting a chance to finally open the Duchess Bake shop's first edition cook book. I received this lovely gift as a birthday gift from friends that know me a little to well. I love baking and experimenting as home baker so my friends knew that I would really appreciate a beautiful cookbook.
The Duchess Bake Shop's cookbook was as big as a dictionary. It was a hard cover book filled with recipes that showcased beautiful photographs of their most decadent desserts and flaky pastries. I’ve never heard of the Duchess Bake Shop until I received this gift and I couldn't believe that I haven't heard or tried this bakery before. This is why I insisted that my boyfriend should take me on a mini road trip to Edmonton to cross this bakery off my foodie bucket list.
At the bakes shop, there was a line of guests waiting to order. I was shocked that there was such have a large line up, there wasn't 3-5 people but a line of 20- 25 people. As we waited in line, I could see that my boyfriend was getting restless but I know Bae and I both have the cases of the FEAR OF MISSING OUT, so we both stuck it through.
* I want to tell you that this is all that we ordered but unfortunately there was a box number 2!
When we finally got to the front of the line, we were tempted by everything. We ordered a chocolate cake, lime cheesecake, scones, macrons, cookies and croissants for the following day. This was excessive for two people, believe me we know! Our justification was that we wanted to try everything.
All the pastries and cake were absolutely delicious, the only disappointing thing about the experience was the fact that they were sold out of my favorite item, they were sold out of madeleines. I was sadden by this since the Bake shop is well known for them however the lucky thing was that I had the recipe so I was able to bake them myself.
My madeleines turned out quite nicely but I know it's nothing comparable to the bake shop itself. This will be another excuse to return and I'm 100% okay with it. Receiving this cook book made me create one of my favorite baked pastry and it brought me to discover a new bakery that I would absolutely recommend.
